I love the idea of horseshoes all around. If the mirror is framed you could wrap it in leather or cow hide for a very authentic western look.
My dad once made one where he used horseshoe nails glued on in a pattern, looked very cool. Those nails are flat, and kinda a long thin wedge shape.
