Can I successfully compost in a desert environment?

With little material outside kitchen scraps, how can I start a compost? There is no grass and few trees in the area.

You can purchase a compost barrel.
plant and veggie food scraps compost well... along with coffee grounds crushed egg shells, tea bags, potato peelings just no meat, oil soaked greens or cooked foods. You will also need BROWN materials if you don't have leaves or grass clippings you can use brown paper or news paper shredded up as a substitute just layer brown and green materials along with water and turn occasionally.
