Is it possible to grow a clematis in a pot?

    Yes you can but be sure to water frequently-likely daily. You will also need to fertilize regularly and if you are wintering it outside (if you are in a cold climate) you will need to apply mulch to protect it.

    Yes...Use a large pot with lots of soil to protect roots.

    Yes you can, however because they do not like wet feet,chances are it will not return the following year. Been there done that.

    I have been growing them in pots for years (one a least 10 years old). They do need to be kept watered but it is also important to keep the roots out of the sun. I placed pots of other things round the large pot for protection as I faced south (UK). Having moved I have planted some in my now large garden but the oldest is still in the pot and looking healthy. Last summer the replanted ones carried on as normal but this years they are bigger than ever.
