mosquitoes hatch their young in standing water. remove the source(s) of water. cover open top rain barrel with no-see 'um mesh. self watering planters ? yup they breed there too. dump out the water. low spot in a yard- water standing for a few days ? fill with used potting soil or top soil. moving water ie fountains generally don't become breeding grounds, but can if you shut down the fountain at night.

I can appreciate not wanting to use potentially toxic chemicals on your skin, once you take out the breeding grounds the swarm should decrease. For your patio- get a nice big fan. I like the swivel ones. citronella or vanilla candles also help. my uncle swears vanilla chases the bugs away.

I love the fan idea. We bring out a fan or two when we work outside in one area for a while. People look at us like we are nuts. Mosquitoes really love me compared to my son and husband. And the bites take up to ten days to go away. We have a lot of shade which doesn't help. Citronella hasn't helped much. I'll try vanilla. We also have junk behind the garage and I know that it gets puddles for days. I'll try to get hubby to take it away but I said that for a couple years now...

I'll try the dryer sheet. I never heard that one. It sounds safer than deet. I always hated putting that on my skin. I just sprayed my clothes. Thanks much. I'll put dryer sheets on my grocery list.

On your body the original fragrance of Avon skin so soft absolutely works. I am a mosquito magnet. It works for me. We also bought a buglight with a mosquito attractant pad. I dont know yet if it works. I have used tiki torches with citronella lamp oil before and it did seem to help.

I saw this recipe on FB and the lady said it will last for 8 month. Not sure since I haven't tried it out. 1 big bottle of cheap mouthwash---3 cups epsom salt---3 stale 12 oz beer --------Mix until salt is desolved and spray your little heart out.

    Homemade Bug Spray Instructions

    1. Fill spray bottle (I used 8 ounce) 1/2 full with distilled or boiled water
    2. Add witch hazel to fill almost to the top
    3. Add 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin if using

Add 30-50 drops of essential oils to desired scent. The more oils you use, the stronger the spray will be. My personal favorite mix is: Rosemary, Clove, Cajeput, Lavender, Cinnamon and Eucalyptus. It works great and smells good too!

Here is the link as well again. Hope it works this time :)

Thanks, as this was my favorite because I thoroughly enjoy our serenity outside without screening and the pests are hungry for my blood more than any other along with me. P.D.
