How about a bottle per plant? Like this
I have used the bottle method. Just make sure you make small holes so the water drips into the root system slowly.
Make a drip hose, take a garden hose, and cut the end with the twist to tighten end as long as you need it. Then use a small drill bit, put holes all in it, however you like, cap one end with a bolt and rubber washer. Hook that hose to a regular garden hose, or directly to the spigo, you can manipulate it however you want to, experiment with it till you get it right!
I purchased a small, inflatable baby pool and filled it with a few inches of water. When I go on vacation, I put my potted plants and hanging baskets in it. When not in use, I let the air out of the pool and put it in a drawer.
see if a neighbor will water for you. give them "picking rights" when the garden matures. i splurged and put in a drip irrigation for my container garden. previous house got a soaker hose run thru the garden.
Ideally I would vote for the drip system controlled by an automatic watering system. I never had success with the bottle method. The homemade hose drip system might work, but I would be concerned about over watering.
I had Lowe's come out and they installed an inexpensive sprinkler system with timers. Not the big metal kind that goes underground for your lawn. But be sure to drain the water out of the system before you have a freeze. Both faucets areas broke and needed to be replaced. It is great. No moving a hose around, no more forgetting to water.
Thank you Olive. I have sprinklers outside. This is in a lanai. I think I'll have to do a similar system with a timer for indoors. It should be okay if I don't try to water too much. Maybe 10 min a day would do it.
Just put a timer on a faucet to which a drip hose is connected.
