You can put cinnamon in any separations/holes between the counters and the walls, or on the floor, along the walls! This worked really well for us. Only if you like the scent of cinnamon, of course :)
You need to find where they are coming into the house.Make sure your windows are properly sealed.Apply food grade diatomaceous earth around your foundation and entrance ways. You can place ant traps in your cabinets or essential oils.Spray the counters down with white vinegar and water providing they are not porous.
Clean the counters thoroughly, do not leave crumbs or anything sticky, like the ring left by a glass of juice, and do this religiously. If you can figure out how they are getting in, putting down something like diazinon, outside will deter them.
boric acid and borax soap detergent works well too
Eucalyptus oil
Ants never go away. I don't like to say this but, call an exterminator. Also, check the mulch around your house. If it is the old wood chip type, bag it and get to to the landfill.
This happened to us and after many tries, this is what worked.
get tube of raid for ants. put a pea-sized drop on a small piece of cardboard, 1" x1", and put it behind something on counter so it is safely away from kids, etc. the ants eat it and take it back to nest and kill the whole nest.
