Every year I buy a cilantro plant and it starts out beautiful but then dwindles down into nothing...Is there a way to keep it full and lush to use all season long? Thank you in advance! Julie Stanczyk

If you are planting in a pot make sure it receives adequate water and drainage, feeding with a water soluble fertilizer every few weeks.

I do and have also heard that maybe replanting cilantro seeds every two weeks as cilantro has a short life span...?

  • I constantly replant, so as to have a continuous supply. You can just snip the top leaves off and they will regenerate continously, like chives, parsley, dill. Problem is I eat faster than I can grow, hence, adding new plants helps.

Make sure you keep it trimmed back or all of the nutrients will go to stem and not leaves

I also eat cilantro faster than i can grow it :-) I have found than in my dry climate it is also especially prone to drying out and/or little white aphids. Not an easy plant to keep alive unfortunately.

I have had the same plant grow lush all season In a window box along with other herbs and all I did was plant it in potting soil and put on fertilizer when I planted it. I did make sure it didn't dry out. I just wish it would come back every year like other herbs, but no go in Minnesota! Most herbs are not too picky except for leaving them dry, all seem to grow on being just left alone and taking off any dead branches or leaves. I wish all plants thrived on neglect!
