  • what area do you live in? What is your ultimate plan for the space? Since it has a pretty nice fence you could have a great vegetable garden or a flower cutting garden.

    • this is one way:

WEED KILLER FOR AREAS TO BE REPLANTED. If you have weeds in areas you want to replant, do this: Fill an ordinary garden sprayer with white vinegar and add about one teaspoon liquid dishwashing soap like blue Dawn. Apply sprayer top and follow the instructions on the sprayer to get it ready to spray. That’s it. Seriously, it is that simple. Pick a hot, dry day to spray weeds until saturated, and they will wilt and shrivel up within hours so be careful to not spray anything you want to live. However, do not worry about the vinegar killing anything below the soil. Because vinegar will not harm the soil, you can safely replant the area once the weeds have died.

  • What a great space! Are you planning on clearing out yourself and replanting? Flowers, herbs, fruit, veggies, a tree or two, dog run necessary? Patio space?

I'm hoping to get it cleared by myself (little help from kids and parents) and possibly make part of it a patio space and then some flower bushes or raised beds for cut-able flowers. What are good plants for helping repel mosquitoes?

I was thinking about a retreat area. Small patio with flowers and maybe add an herb garden. I don't know if I have the patience for a pond. :-) But thanks for the idea!

I would start by clearing the area out.Sometimes you can get a better idea of your preference for the area.

I had it cleared one year - but unfortunately it really just spread the weed seeds all over the place.

I plan on clearing it again, but need a good home remedy for weed killer. Got any ideas?

This sounds like a nice idea! Maybe I can do that along the side of the fence. I'm hoping to make a small patio too.

I had an area last year that looked just like this. I am not sure how to upload the pictures but I can tell you what I did.

First I cleared the area of weeds - someone already suggested this.

I sprayed the entire area to kill all weeds and any plants that I wanted to reuse I dug them up. I placed these items into temporary pots to use later.

I purchased black mulch - any color will work - and spread over area.

I felt the space should be used for something. I purchased a 2 person shaded swing and placed at an angle in the corner.

I made a semi circle of small red brick pavers in front of the swing and placed brown rubber mulch under the swing and in front of the swing but behind the pavers.

I sprayed weed killer prior to setting the swing and rubber mulch in place.

My space was not big enough for a fire pit but perhaps yours is. I created instead and area with small tree stumps to use as end tables to place drinks/food.

Since a portion was behind the garage I made a 3 tired garden against the wall to grow herbs & spices.

I spaced the another row of red brick pavers along the fence. I left at intervals enough to place a container garden in between the bricks. This year I will actually plant plants. At the end of last year a friend gave me hostas and they are starting to come up.

    I hope this is helpful.

Underneath this box there are two little boxes - one is for videos, one is camera. If you click on the camera and then find the pictures on your computer (laptop/tablet) then you can just click on them to upload.

I would love to see pictures!! I do hope you can figure it out. This sounds a lot like what I'm thinking of doing. It's hard to envision it, though.

Do you have a good home remedy for weed killer?

  • Janet Pizaro Janet Pizaro on Apr 25, 2017

Providing there aren't any plants around that you would like to keep you can try the white vinegar mixed with water 50/50 a dab of dish soap and salt.If there are plants you do want you only option with be to smother the weeds out with heavy black plastic.

If not a pond there are lots of fountains available out there that would give you the effect and as they run constantly, no mosquitoes..:)

That would be very cool! Thanks for the idea!!
