I need Help with ugly counters in kitchen...

Help, please. Retirement is here and hands are not so strong anymore but I cannot hire any contractor, no budget, lol. My counters were made with small 4 by 4 tiles finished with wood around the fronts and I despise them. What steps do I need to follow to finally get rid of them and then I can do a beautiful counter. Tools will give me the required strength so all advice is wonderful. Thank you for helping me get rid of a dreadful eyesore... regards, Linda

This is not an easy task; and will require strength; so find some helpers. Lots of people love to demolish things; ask around for help in demolishing your counters. Where you there when it was done? The tile is probably on a pice of plywood, and the entire piece can be removed; but will need some strong backs. What kind of counter do you want to do? Counters can be very expensive. Do you want to remove the entire counter top or do you want to replace the tiles with another top covering?
If you want inexpensive then take a hammer and break the tile and find another tile perhaps to replace them. That would be the least expensive way and there are worlds of different tiles made.
You can buy a premade formica top at Hope Depot or Lowe's that doesn't cost too much but you will need somebody to cut it to fit. These look very nice and there are a lot of differnt disigns and colors.
