You can try making assorted sprays with hot pepper and crushed garlic, castor oil basically any spray with a foul smell.
Planting deterrents such as garlic, lavender, lilac, and mint helps.
If you have a dog, having the dog mark your territory should also help.
Soapy spray, hot pepper spray - sprayed on plants can also help deter deer. Soap flakes around the edges of garden beds can help keep deer out.
Deer also dont don't like noise and light. if you have old CDs, try hanging them from trees like they are wind chimes. In this case, they are light refractors which have been noted to help keep deer away.
all these suggestions are good. Keep changing the methods you use because the deer will get used to one and then be back!
Plant lambs ears... we live in the country and everywhere those have been planted the deer seem to avoid.
this is a little weird/gross but i tried it and it worked: take the hair out of your hairbrush and place it under rocks or something in inconspicuous places in your yard. deer go by smell and they will think they smell a person and will avoid your yard. repeat this every couple of weeks or so
Physical barriers can work, they do jump fences though. I myself made an obstacle course, from decorative yard art, but I also strung very strong fishing line from kabob sticks to plastic forks. They don't like getting tangled, plus if it's high enough (mine varied from 6 inches to 9) I draped sprayed repellent over fishing . One season is all it took for me ;-)
Plant Rosemary bushes. They will not come near. I've had as many as 23 deer hanging around.
FYi. I planted a Rosemary wall in New Mexico. No more deer
JA is right get hair clippings and spread it around where the deer goes..they hate hair...replenish regularly....I would go to salon....it is probably free
Foolproof method for me is Milorganite fertilizer. It is intended for use on golf courses and has a high iron content so it probably smells bad to the deer. We live out in the country surrounded by cow pastures and wooded areas so lots of room for deer habitat. I had trouble with the deer eating my flowers even with the ground and eating everything but okra in my garden. My local feed and seed store owner told me about Milorganite. She said sprinkle it around the perimeter of my flower beds and garden. DO NOT put inside your beds or garden as it will burn up everything; it's very strong fertilizer. It won't hurt your grass as it is for golf courses. Milorganite can also be found at Lowes, haven't checked Home Depot. Give it a try, you will be amazed!
