Did you have it in a well lit area?Was it overwatered?
Was the pot cleaned before using? Pots can carry bad things if not washed properly before using. If kept inside it was probably just not enough light and maybe too much water.
Was the pot too big? When I transplant to bigger pots, I always go just a bit bigger.
Maybe not enough water or too much. Not enough light . Hot air blowing on it. To much fertilizer or not enough.
Plant the seeds in the big pot. Don't over water them. When they are about 12 inches high clip the top middle off to grow big tomatoes.
