Do you have a large lawn? If so, you can get a dethatching blade for your lawn mower. Set the height adjustment so that the tines can touch the surface of the soil, but if you set it too low, you will also remove your grass. You can dethatch your entire lawn using this method and dispose of the moss you remove.
If you have a smaller lawn you can do this by hand by raking the mossy areas vigourously which will dethatch it.
They also have sprays you can purchase before doing the above that will help to kill the moss and loosen it.
Moss loves shade and excess moisture so make sure ample sunlight is hitting your lawn (you may have to do some tree trimming). Also don't over water. Good luck!
Dolomite lime will alkalize the soil and help to kill the moss which needs an acidic soil to grow. Then, thatched and thatched. The moss crowds out the grass so we also fertilized and reseeded the lawn so that it would be healthy thick.
