Here is a gift I made for my MIL, though I haven't given it to her yet. I found the pizza paddle about a year ago, at a thrift store for $3 and didn't want to pass up something so unique. It was stained with grease on both sides, but nothing some sanding, priming and covering in chalk paint couldn't hide. I then Mod Podged images I printed, out of dishes that my MIL is known to make that are favourites of the family. She isn't one to follow recipes, but I found traditional recipes online and printed them out, using diff. fonts in Word. I played around with b&w, colour and all kinds of sizes of pics and recipes until I was happy, then tore off edges and applied them to the paddle. I also printed out pics of my MIL and family to make it even more personal. The saying means "Nonna's kitchen is the heart of the home." I hope she loves it!
I primed both sides with Zinsser Bullseye 123 latex primer.
I slightly sanded both sides, then gave it a good coat of Moonstone chalk paint, by Crooked Label. I printed out some pictures that I copied to Word, changing sizes and colour until I was happy with an arrangement. I used Mod Podge to apply them to the paddle.
It's starting to come together.
Here is the finished result! By adding pics of my MIL and the family, it's even more personal. The saying means "Nonna's kitchen is the heart of the home."
The lettering is some glitter chipboard letters I got at the dollar store. I used a craft glue on the sticky backing to be sure they'd stay, then I applied three coats of Mod Podge over the whole thing.
I'll be giving it to here only in June as we are away for a bit. I hope she is tickled by it. I am! :)

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Wats MIL?
Is it strictly decorative or could she still use it to get pizzas out of the oven? I have one, and I love what you did. I wonder what you think about just doing one side so I can still rescue pizzas on the other?
