Our concrete basement floor needs to be refinished...

Our house was built in 1929. We are going to have to excavate a portion of our concrete floor to replace the original sewer lines. They have collapsed in a couple of places. The current finish is battleship gray paint. I hate it and want to use it as an excuse to motivate my other half to upgrade the finish. I plan on adding a full bathroom in the basement while redoing the piping since we will have everything exposed already. Once the repairs are complete I need a way to hide the new vs old concrete. I'm not a fan of tile or linoleum so does anyone have any good suggestions?

  • I am guessing that your basement doesn't have water issues. I cannot say enough good things about CoreTec manufactured by US Floors and sold almost everywhere. This flooring comes in many colors and comes with a 50 year residential warranty. It can stand in water and not warp. Armstrong has now come out with a competing product. I suggest you visit a flooring store to see all the fab new things that are available.

The luxury vinyl tiles are 100% waterproof and if that had happened to them, you could simply lift them up, dry them, and put them back down!

Why not use the self leveling concrete, then either paint it a color you like and add woven mats as throw rugs, or stencil a design on it?
