Windchimes, also known as aeolian chimes, are decorative garden ornaments typicallyconstructed of wood, glass, metal or shells in pieces that hang looselytogether so they can be “played by the wind.” The specific sound a windchime makes is determined by its length, width, thickness and the material withwhich it has been constructed.

Douglas Hunt on Jan 11, 2014Here near the beach it is sometimes so breezy that I have to put a towel over my wind chimes to muffle them, but my favorites are made by Music of the Spheres. Theirs are actually tuned, and they offer them in 11 scales and five "voices," from soprano to bass. They are pricey, but they are handmade and virtually indestructible. I've had mine for a decade.
