Try a slatted door (like for closets) or bi-fold (depending on the size of your windows). It gives a nice Key West style look. Paint a nice color or even cover with a heavy duty vinyl and hang horizontally on window brackets made for awnings (they sell those at Home Depot by me) . It still lets in a lot of light surprisingly. It's done a lot here in South Florida. My mom actually made hers years ago for a house they had on the intracoastal. It looked so pretty and so inexpensive compared to store bought! Just a thought.
