My glass block windows get pretty drafty in the winter. Is there an easy and low cost way to insulate them besides covering in plastic?
For your windows, heavy fabrics or layered curtains over the windows will help keep out drafts. You can also purchase insulated curtains with built-in thermal backing. Stay warm!
Caulk around the windows. There are films that are relatively inexpensive and you only need a blade and a hair dryer to install. The films run around $35 per window. Cost really depends on how many windows you have. For your doors check out the hardware stores. They have lots of products to finding and fixing drafts.
I live in a house made of 1" x 4" tongue and groove boards---the way most of the houses built around the '30s. The frames around the windows are made of 1" x 6" boards. I bought several cheap clear shower curtains, double faced tape, and cardboard upholstery tack strips. Using the tape to attach, I stretched the shower curtains over the window, trimmed away the excess curtain and reinforced the connection to the the window frames using the upholstery tack strips and a staple gun. I did this on all my windows over 2 years ago and have had considerable evidence that it is working by having a lower gas heating bill. The blinds that are over all my windows for privacy totally conceal the fact that the plastic is stapled to the window frame. This worked for me...maybe it will for you!
