try equal parts of white vinegar and olive oil, applied with a soft cloth, going with the wood grain.. then buff with a clean soft cloth.

White toothpaste (not gel) and a damp cloth. Put a dab of toothpaste on the cloth and rub the spot in a circular motion.

I have heard mayonnaise , but it didn't work for me . Then someone suggested mayonnaise and cigar ash . I thought ick! But I tried it out and it worked .
