Adding flagstones to edge of pond

I am wanting to add flagstones now to edge my pond. Have flexible liner in place but no stones in the pond yet. 1) Should I add stone walls first or can I just lay flagstone so that it hangs over the water about 1/3 of the way? 2) Should I lay quickcrete directly on the liner to set the flagstone? 3) I plan to also add a small flagstone patio that joins up to the edging of the pond on one side. Is that added after the pond edging? Thanks for the advice!

My dad used marine glue to install rock at waters edge on inside of pond as liner and then he used same glue to adhere stones to ponds rim over hanging some.

@Kristi Kelty He has Koi in his pond (although he did not line whole interior of pond just where the stone was 2-3 " below water level. So you could stop the glue before top water level on back of stones. But this being said he has had pond over flow (rain/ and forgetting to turn off water :)) and hasn't lost any fish. You might check into aquarium glues /sealants see if they will hold rock to plastic.

yes he glued to the liner, lol took a while as he had to hold them in place until glue grabbed a hold but it worked they are still in place going on 4 yrs now.

although his liner wasn't that flexible but not rigid or pre-formed either

Hmmmm....how long did it take for the rocks to hold? I would be gluing them starting at the water line.....and working up to the edge so I can place the flagstone on top.

I really don't know, he worked on it for about a week-- here is a link on glues to use to build rock sculptures for aquariums, really same principal except lining not sculpting. Said takes about 60 seconds for that glue to grab and hold--although since on a vertical surface I would test might have to hold a little longer. GL and post pics of your pond here when done would love to see it. http://www.ehow.com/how_6386431_use-silicone-glue-aquarium-rocks.html

I don't have any stone inside my pond. I put the flagstone around the edge and let it overhang the water. I didnt cement them in place but I used spray foam in between them so when it rained the dirt didn't run into the pond. I have had my pond for about 18 years. I have had to replace the liner once. It is small tho. about 7x4' teardrop.
