if it is a chain link fence; you can add "slats" to weave them in the chain link holes to create a privacy fence - they sell them pretty cheap in pvc version in decent colors. They also make a black like fabric that you can tie onto the fence that is often used in city construction projects to block view. Hope this helps!

You can also use bamboo to weave in links. and if you are near an area where wisteria or grapes grow wild (your property or get permission) you could use the vines to weave in and out. (even making designs with them like embroidery) you can attach bamboo blinds over them or grown evergreen vines on them (carolina or reg. jasmine--find vines good for your zone and evergreen)-- you could use plywood attached to fence--paint stain whatever, or use corrugated roof metal panels-- depends on your style. You could make a living fence with out vines. Use landscape fabric (holes in bottom for drainage) and make pockets attach these to fence all over fill w/ soil and plants (flowering, evergreen or herbs)-- or you could attach pallets to wire fence--stain or paint- line areas between slats on backside w/ wire and fabric, add soil and plants... So many Diy's here and on pinterest or google privacy fence DIY. And GL-- be sure and keep us updated post pics of what you do.

It will all depend on your style and amount of privacy you want. Another metal option would be radiator covers. With metal fences or others if don't want to build wood frames drill holes at top and bottom of panels and attach them sturdily to existing fence.
