It is on door facings and wain scotting. I was not sure how to go about cleaning it up.
I recommend a wood stripper. There is a "safer" more Earth friendly product called Citristrip that is available at Wal-Mart. Probably much easier than sanding all of it.
I use CitriStrip, but it will more than likely require multiple applications to get all the layers off. I have one project that I used a combination of techniques: CitriStrip, heat gun, and sanding. No matter the method you use it will be messy. But the end result will be beautiful. The photo below is the project in-process. I read recently on this site that Citristrip is much more effective if you wrap the coated items with plastic wrap after the application . I can't find the article just now , but you may want to try that .
