Can I put bark down in my garden to keep soil moist?

  • Yes, that is one of its uses. I have mine a couple inches thick and refresh every spring. Helps keeps moisture in and weeds to a minimum. I would level the soil and then plut down landscape fabric fabric first, then the mulch.

    Use cedar mulch which will aid in insects and provide moisture,but make sure card board,newspaper and landscape fabric go down first.

    Bark is good for retaining moisture in your flower or garden beds...BUT: stay away from bark that has cedar or redwood in it; they contain nutrients that can kill off your garden plants. The bark should be put in sparingly & mixed in well...leaves from fall work well due to their rapid decomposition & help soften the soil.
