Till some peat moss and compost into the clay soil. You can dig it in with a pitch fork or rent a rototiller.
Gypsum, and chicken manure, compost. Read online about how to use gypsum.

Till the soil,apply Gypsum,Lime,Garden soil,and Peat moss.
I tilled the soil, blended in a lot of peat moss and additional soil. I have been adding more every year, and now have a nice garden area. If you want to plant right away, dig a nice size hole three to four times the size of your plant. Put in new potting soil and peat moss, plant into this mixture. You will need to continue adding potting soil and garden soil as the soil compacts. This way you are creating an actual pot inside the ground for you plant and it has plenty of room to expand as you work on the rest of the garden.
