How long does it take for lawn to germinate?

I had my lawn top dressed and over seeded- How long does it normally take for the seed to germinate and how much watering does it need? Trying not to wash the seed away..

Lawn seeds need to be water everyday to prevent drying out.Were they covered with peat moss? Germination time depends on what seed was applied.
I just reseeded a portion of my lawn, and am watering lightly twice a day, and the seed I used said it would sprout in 7 to 14 days, mine started peeking through on day 7. Do you have the package, or know what type of seed was put down? Enough sun every day?
