How to rebind the edge of a wool antique rug?

My antique rug is still in great shape but the edges in certain places is frayin out and looks awful!

    You can get a similar color yarn and sew a seam along the border to stop the fray.

  • I took my grandmothers antique asian rug to a local carpet guy and had done for me. That was quite a few years ago and he did a great job and was not expensive. Or at least for what I consider not expensive considering the worth of the rug itself.

    I used heavy muslin on the underside, with fusible bonding in betwee & applied an iron to get it to bond. I then used heavyweight thread and a large upholstery needle to whip stitch the edges, making sure to catch the muslin layer as well. So far, it's holding up well.

    there is adhesive binding at home depot or you can take it in and they can send it out to be repaired.

    Usually a company that just sells carpets, will clean and repair your wool antique rugs. The company I used in Delaware would come and pick up, clean and repair. Now I have to take to San Antonio, (3 hrs) away to have this service done. Hope you have one in your area.
