Its a great idea!
Hi Sheila! Simply cut the material connecting the pant legs and fold the pieces overtop to restitch it into a skirt form! (That's if you want it short, for it to be long you'll need to add some jean material underneath) What do you mean by braided? Sounds interesting!
I'm guessing you mean skirts like in photos with the braided trim. Very cute!
Someone on Etsy who makes braided denim jewelry might be able to make the trim for you, but it sounds like you want to DIY the whole thing.

I would google "how to make braided denim trim" or "how to make braided denim rug."
Pick a tutorial you like and follow the instructions for cutting and braiding the denim strips. Most of the tutorials say to cut the strips 2" wide, but you may need to experiment with narrower strips so you can get the right width of trim.
To start braiding, you sew the ends of the strips together. Then you braid them as you would braid your hair, keeping the strips smooth and flat as you go. When the braid is maybe 1 or 2 inches longer than you need, stop braiding. Sew the bottom ends of the strips together.
Now comes the part I'm only guessing about. You might need to sew across the width of the braid in several spots to keep the braid from getting loose. Or maybe not, if the strips are sewn together at both ends of the braid. Once again, experiment. Pin your trim where you want it on the skirt and sew it on, probably stitching along the length of the braid, and then once again across in several places.
(You could probably glue it on with fabric glue instead. I'd prefer sewing, but I'm old school.)
How hard or easy this all is depends on how much sewing experience you have!
