Changing vertical blinds color

Shari on Jan 12, 2014They make spray paint these days for just about any kind of surface you can think of so I suppose you could use a paint for vinyl/plastic, if that is what yours are made of. Depending on how long they are and how many individual panels you have, it could be very labor intensive though since you would have to take each panel off and spray both sides. And you would certainly want to clean them good first with a de-greasing cleaner so the paint would adhere well.Helpful Reply

Debbie Harris on Jan 15, 2014Your question was can you change the color without buying new ones. The answer is yes. Paint them. The easiest way is to spray paint them. However, unless your good at spray painting, I would not do it. If you get runs or pools of paint you'll end up with a mess and then want to buy new ones. Brush painting is the next option. What you want to consider is where they are located. Kitchens and baths will accummulate grease and moisture and will need cleaning more often. Latex paint won't be good for this. You'd want an oil based paint. Next question. Does the sun stay on them for long perios of time? Heat and warping can become issues. Talk to your local paint expert to guide you to the paint you need. I would probably recommend Rustoleum outdoor spray paint if you can do it. And if not spraying, use an oil based paint if you have to brush it on. Chalk paint wouldn't be realistic just for cleaning purposed alone.Helpful Reply

Sunush on Jan 15, 2014Thanks for all the suggestions. It is in the guest room and the window is facing north and does not get much sun. But the blind itself has some texture to it, so I am not sure if the paint will cover all of it.Helpful Reply

Shari on Jan 15, 2014Is the color or the texture that bothers you? You are right, paint will not cover up the texture, just change the color. I have never had vertical blinds but I know some of them used to have a fabric-like covering. If this is the source of the texture on yours, it could work to your advantage. The texture might grab the paint better and prevent chipping/peeling that you could potentially have with smooth blinds. Can you post a closeup picture so we can see the texture? We might be able to advise you better if we could see what you are working with.Helpful Reply

Deb S on Mar 05, 2015Deb Stillwater, MN I am looking for solutions for changing vertical blinds also and am thinking of paint or covering with wallpaper. Just need to calculate the risks and effort to decide which one. I've heard of covering them with fabric as well.Helpful Reply
