I don't know if this is the answer you need, but you will need a large bracket, that "should" come with the flag when you purchase it. I know the bracket will need to be bolted into wood that is strong. The reason I say this, I love the American flag, and my husband had just put a new one up recently. We had a real bad storm with rain/wind, and it bent the bracket (that is why I said a strong bracket to hold) and the flag came down to the ground. My son had to get a new bracket and drill holes to put the flag back up.
You can get them anywhere from 7.00 to 50.00 at places like Walmart or 1.00 at the dollar tree but they are all from the ground.
Here's an idea, too. You can build one from PVC pipe. If you really want it to be sturdy, put some wooden dowels inside that are just a bit smaller and they won't bend or warp.
