I need to replace my current Amanda unit and would like to know what brand I should look at for my 1300 sq. ft. Cedar frame home with a crawl space. I live in west central Indiana, near Terre Haute. That is for any suggestions.

My Husband said first of all why are you replacing unit?- 1. Does it not work properly now (this could mean needs a service call for cleaning coils, or more Freon)? 2. Does it not work at all? 3. Is it old and you are wanting to replace with an more energy efficient unit? He said there are basically only 3 or 4 companies that actually manufacture a/c and heat units, so that if that one worked well for you before you could replace with same size unit or if never kept at right temp. (need to check insulation of home) and maybe put underpinning around crawl space if don't already have it) , if that didn't work may need to go with a slightly larger unit.
  • When we lived in IL in the country, we invested in a York system and boy was it efficient and handled all the hot humid weather as well as the cold. that was 11 years ago and here in VA we have a heat pump and I asked a friend how York was and he said even better than they were then. So when our heat pump and A/C die we are investing in a new York unit because I believe he said they had a new 23 seer system now. I am tired of making the electric company rich. Ask around. Ask everyone you know or meet what they have. New systems are so much more efficient! I can bet your electric/gas bill will go down.

@The Garden Frog with C Renee Because I have the a/c and cooling package unit and most people I know have a regular system, I haven't found anyone to recommend a unit. York is a good name and I am seriously considering it. About the best efficiency that can be achieved is 80% for a package unit.

The unit doesn't work at all anymore. It was damaged by the heat when my garage burned down right after I purchased the property. It never worked right after that and was regularly repaired for a couple of years. My crawl space is insulated well and dry. I added insulation 2 yrs. ago and currently use the gas fireplace with a fan for heat. I am just looking to see which company has the best record for having the best product before I replace it.
