I love wooden walkways. I would suggest that you sand it down a little or get it super clean by using a wire brush, or if you have access to a high power washer, that could be enough to get it prepped. The idea is to get it cleaned, and smooth out any really rough areas so the wood will be ready for the next step.
After it's cleaned and dry, then I would use exterior water based stain applied with the proper brush for the product (the can will say which to use...or ask the store employee). Or if you have a small paint sprayer that'll work too.
Stain will soak into the wood and last longer than paint. Remember that any horizontal surface---especially one exposed to the elements and foot traffic--- is going to wear much faster than a vertical one (like a fence or wall).
We just used Olympic water based exterior stain in a solid color on our cedar fence and it was great! There was a brochure that showed all the colors it is available to be mixed to. There are many other brands on the market too.
round up should take care of the grass. As for painting the walkway I would use the new textured outdoor pai nt. It will be less slippery.
It looks nice too...thanks
I would use stain rather than paint It will last longer and not chip or peel. There all so many colors of stain now, not just "wood" colors You are sure o find one you like.
