How can I keep squirrels from digging up the herbs in my window boxes?

    You can try making a spray with hot pepper and garlic and apply blood meal.

    Install a wire mesh dome over the boxes. Secure wire mesh to one long side of box & use small hooks to hold down the other side. You lift the mesh screen when needed, sun & rain gets in, but squirrels can't reach in.

    Another version of Sharon's idea would be to use chicken wire that you cut off and angle it upwards from the soil level outward. The sharp cut edges should prevent the critters from being able to get close enough to chew. I put a mouse trap with peanut butter bait in my half barrel planters they were digging up and trying to eat my bulbs. I didn't catch anything, but it was tripped and haven't even had a scratch in either one since, so they learn quick!
