I don't understand the question. What is youxeriscape.

I am not sure what you mean exactly, but I established a succulent garden over lawn. I laid newspapers (about 10 sheets thick) over the grass and then added woodchip mulch. I let it sit for a couple of weeks and then planted the succulents. It sort of worked, but the ground, because it had been lawn, was too compacted, which didnt allow the soil to dry out sufficiently after the rain. Next time I would use weed killer on the lawn and then dig it up and add any necessary fertilizer, gravel for better drainage, etc before planting the plants.

  • You can, but it is better to kill any remaining sod and remove first. Just lay cardboard or a thick layer of newspaper over the area and do not water.

Local rental place rents sod removing equipment you can run.

    why? Because

    1. weed killer isn't free either, and it's detrimental effects on our water supply is unnecessary.

    2. You do the job and it's done. No waiting weeks for sporadic success.

    3. If you're good, you can reuse sod in another spot of the yard, fill in low areas of the yard.

    Xeriscaping is basically

    1. using indigenous plants for your area.

    2. Placing plants that require that SAME water and light requirements TOGETHER.

    3. A good amount of those practicing this method, choose plants that tend to thrive on the average rainfall amount for that area (once the plant is Established, that is....)

    4. Many mistakenly call it Zero-Scaping, which is an incorrect pronunciation the word, and may be the reason for misunderstanding your question (?)
