People are using all sorts of tile, wood, granite, quartz is almost indestructible, you can cut on it and you won't cut it like wood, Formica. It easy to keep looking nice.

There are so many choices out there with huge price differences. I just finished my kitchen and was dying for quartz but the price was 3x that of Corian. I think you have to think hard about whether this is your forever house or one you'll leave in a few years. If it's in a very upscale area it might be worth the investment, if it's not, maybe Corian or Formica would not effect resale. One possible exception is that if your kitchen doesn't have a lot of long runs, you might be able to find it cheaper as it would involve smaller slabs. Good luck!

If I was doing the bathroom I would get the tops that look white during the day but at night you can have a light shine threw and it would work as a night light. If I had an island in the kitchen I would put it there too.
