It's easier because it is independent of climate, terrain, soil etc. So if any of these is getting in the way of your gardening at home, it may be a good option to consider. It also pretty much takes care of all your weed problems.
I used to live in an area with clay soil. Trying to plant anything required a jackhammer, so I used raised beds wherever I could. Straw bale gardening sounds like it has the same advantages.
there are methods on how to make a straw/ hay bale garden on the net. do check out the prices per bale....and go from there.
I have black clay in my area. I used raised bed and made soil to plant in on top of clay. I mixed 4 cu. ft. peat moss, 4 cu ft vermiculite and 5 different types of natural compost no chemicals. I have had wonderful results.
