It depends where you live. Most people in my area want a garage so they can get right into their car while in the garage So they're not in bad weather or get hot. Especially Mothers with small children or elderly people. Check with a realtor before you enclose your garage for the better option for selling your house.
also check with your HOA and the city for remodeling permits. Even in the country in some areas rules can extend out. Like suggested check with a realtor then city hall or county offices. You can put 10,000 into this reno and lose it all and more on the sale.
I agree with Kathy....be sure to check with some realtors in your area to see if people are more concerned with having a garage or an additional room of some sort. If rooms are popular...then go wild! Make a man cave, craft room, game room, exercise area, home theater, etc. There are so many possibilities to choose from. Decide what type of space you would enjoy the most and let your imagination run wild!
Check building codes first. If popular in your area, go for it! Personally I need a garage, house is small and I need all the storage I can get, plus it is my workshop and I park one of my cars in it.
