Well, what do you like? Beachy, mountain, rustic, formal? Think about what you always admire and want at your home. Then shop your own home first to see what you already have to work with. Then fill in thetedwithbflea market, thriftvstore, ngarage sale and purchased items. Poke around here on Hometalk, or even Pinterest to get ideas. Does this help any?
It would help to know what the theme is. But putting that aside, as a designer, I tend to be more abstract about themes than literal. In other words, to make an atmosphere that supports the theme, instead of making planters that will not be able to be used unless you keep that theme.
For example: If you want a sports theme, you could paint a planter like a baseball or basketball, etc. Or you could pick one "sports" color and paint a planter. Age it.. Then put a bunch of old baseballs in a wire basket next to it, and you'd have a more sophisticated theme here.
One hint: the more you can make a theme look like a natural part of your environment, the better the look. Take the sports theme again. If you have an outside area that is cottage-y, using a vintage sports theme will blend in more
and have that quaint feel.
Themes are really fun to have. The problem is they usually look too "young" or
a bit out of place. Think about how your theme can work into what is already existing around your home.
Exactly what is your theme you are trying to accomplish?????
