Are the screw slots filled still with paint? If so, use remover, and something to carefully clean them out,(I use something like a single edged razor blade) and try again. You might see if the plumbers' trick works. Spray with some WD40, or liquid wrench, then bang them a few times to help loosen the screws. Bang carefully only on the metal parts. Sometimes that works. Otherwise, it's a slow, tedious process to get those screws to start moving.

They are more like rivets w no screw slots. The opening to the doors are just flat to the wood w pulls & no other raised surfaces. There are brass caps on the legs.

I know it's not that old as it was made in "People's Republic of China" (labels) (although that could have been a while ago!) at a "lacquer & inlaid gold" workshop.

Other sources just say clean it & use paste wax for the wood, but cleaning the brasa would make a big difference too.

If they are just added with tiny brass pin nails, I just pry them up using an eyeglass flat screwdriver.
