What is the shade made of?
Use a lint roller to get all the dust off of it first . Then you can modge podge fabric onto it, decoupage it, deconstruct it and turn it upside down and use it as light fixture . Have fun and please post pictures :-)

Depending on what it is made out of, you could paint it with something like chalk paint that really adheres well to things, you could wrap rope around it and make it a rope lamp shade, you can embellish it with flowers. Some people have even used contact paper or wall paper.
You could also take off the fabric , which then leaves you with the wire support.
Attach old belts vertically all the way around. It's a fun and funky look!
