No, zucchini is not a vine plant but it does need space. So as long as you planted enough space between your plants you won't have a problem.
Put in some type of trellis and train it up the trellis. I imagine they grow much like cucumbers and are viney. I have mine by the side of the garden where they go up the chain link fence, and just follow it without taking over the garden. You also get straighter fruit if it hangs.
The plants get quite big so spacing will be important if you are planting other veggies.
