Sweet! LOve this idea, and am doing a version of this myself. I have a maidenhair fern in a pot with a large cloche over it (shade area). With the cloche on it I only have to water it every week or two, and I love the botanical look. The cloche will also protect the plant from the cats. If I ever want to add more around it, I would add a few indoor flowering plants. You could also have a series of plants with cloches - the glass collection could look really sweet!
Or plant a container of cat grass!
I wouldn't do it if you have cats.
I've got to agree with Barbara. Normally cats and container type gardening do not play well together. Your kitties are likely to consider it a giant litter box and its very hard to keep them from digging in it as well.
I would find a closed container to build a real terrarium, you might also be careful selecting plants that aren't poisonous to cats. https://www.google.com/search?q=terrarium+containers&client=opera&hs=fi0&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjd_Nn7v4LUAhUJxVQKHdbOBZoQ7AkIiwE&biw=1366&bih=629
I'm sorry Danielle, but cats are cats and that won't really make any difference. They will want to "explore" the entire area and will do their business wherever if it suits them.
