I asked my concrete/mason husband, and sorry, he said concrete counters won't last (well).
It's a personal preference, but you can use Ardex. Check at HD or Lowes. Many DIY'ers have had great success with it. Have you thought of the hammered look with spray paint? It might be more durable. I do love the look of concrete though, best of luck.
