How can I reuse my grandmothers sewing machine cabinet?

My old sewing machine was metal so it was easy to put in the cabinet but my new one is plastic. The machine is too heavy to put in the cabinet.

I put a piece of plywood, painted smooth , over the opening and put my serger on it

If you haven't found a use for it yet that you are satisfied with, as it is partially open on the inside it would lend itself well to be used as a vanity base for a vessel sink. It would look perfect if you are going for a country French/shabby chic decor, especially in a powder room.
