What can I do to prevent Paint streaking?

i have attempted to paint my front door but could not keep it from streaking... even after three coats!!! it lools like the same door that you have. i tried different textures. i finally HIRED it done which made me feel like a complete failure!!!!!!! Any thoughts for an old Lakeland Dreadnaught...??

    You should have a decent base coat now. A primer before you started would have helped , but at this point don't quit! I presume you used a brush. Once you're ABSOLUTELY SURE it's dry, use a roller and you should be able to apply a even coat. If you used a roller before and it streaked, you may have to sand off some of what you just applied , wash the dust down with a little vinegar and water, use a recomm rxter primer, then be sure to use an exterior pain't recommended for the door type and your weather..

    i did prime it first, and used a brush AND a roller!! This door is out to get me!!!

    So I have to ask, what kind of paint are you using? Latex, or oil? If you are painting outside when it's warm (or in the sun) with latex, the paint can dry too fast, causing streaks. Could this be the issue?

    Are you painting over existing paint or finish? If so, you need to get it stripped. I used to do that all the time. It elliminated a lot of headaches.
