Tried to check that site but the site is unavailable.
The hosts are hybrids that re reverting to a baser rootstock.
I do think that if it were acid rain, they would not be tripling in size. Has the soil changed or been amended?

I use Epsom salts,egg shells,and banana peels to feed mine every couple months. Just make a ho!e beside plant and drop it in!
