I know someone who used chalk paint on her steps. It came out beautifully!
Why would you paint wood steps they should be stained.
We used porch paint from Sherwin Williams - pricey, but wears like iron. We used it on interior stairs at a lake house - risers are white, treads are black, railings are black - chose to paint these stairs when 30 year old carpet (yuck)was removed and plywood subflooring was exposed - sanded, filled & patched then painted 2 coats of each color - never looked back and have received MANY compliments. Good luck !
