Use a dehumidifier and hang up bags of damp rid
Hi Joyce, I 100% agree with Janet. Bottom line, you have to eliminate any dampness to remedy the underlying cause. In the meantime, if you want to mask the smell, try placing some containers of coffee beans or ground coffee in a few areas of your basement. Coffee, (from what I've read) is one of the strongest neutralizing smells. You may have seen a bunch of little cups of coffee beans at perfume counters or at Yankee Candle. It's supposed to cleanse the nose pallette! Good luck!
Joyce...yes you must get rid of humidity, but also can use ACTIVATED CARBON used in fish tanks and found at pet stores. Just put some pebbles in small containers around the basement to absorb odors.
Thanks for that reminder! I had forgotten about using coffee.
