My dad always dug up one of their holes, put a trap in there, covered the hole with a board, and the next day he usually caught one. It usually isn't very many moles but they do a ton of damage. I also use cd spinners, solar lights (they're nocturnal and don't like light), and pinwheels in my garden to stop them as well. Mothballs keep them out of my garden too.
