are you painting on real wood?
No sanding needed before chalk painting- that's what makes it so fun! Just apply a good wax coat at the end and it should last you well.
No sanding or priming needed when using chalk paint. Be sure to apply a coat of wax to it once done. I have painted lots of furniture with chalk paint and it holds up great!
Do give it a good cleaning first!
Usually you don't need to sand it before you use Chalk Paint. However, some older wood finishes will have "bleed through" (the tannin in the wood bleeds through the paint). If that happens then you can apply a coat of clear shellac before you apply the 2nd coat of paint. You can Chalk Paint directly over painted surfaces with no problem! I'll include a photo of a side table that was painted black that I painted directly over with Chalk Paint. Feel free to PM me on Facebook if you need any help during your project. Good luck and have fun! https://www.facebook.com/TheBlackSheepShoppe/
