Kitchen faucet won't move

Pat Dollar on Jan 15, 2014Walmart has cheap faucets for as little as under $13. They won't last forever of course but can provide a few years of function without breaking the bank.Helpful Reply

Bonnie D on Jan 15, 2014try vinegar. Sounds like mineral build up. Or remember if it moves and shouldn't use duct tape. If it doesn't move and should use WD40!!Helpful Reply

Gay Storm on Jan 15, 2014I'm not sure where to put the vinegar. But I'll try to figure it out. I am out of WD40, but if the vinegar doesn't work, I'll get some. Thanks!Helpful Reply

Gay Storm on Jan 15, 2014This faucet is a single faucet with a sprayer that pulls out on a metal flexible cable. I don't know the brand - there's no name on it! I will look at Wal-Mart, but even so, we don't know how to install it, and can't afford a plumber, since we are on fixed income (SS). Thanks for the idea, anyway!Helpful Reply

Pat Dollar on Jan 16, 2014Gay Storm, I hope the vinegar works for you first, but if all fails It is not difficult to replace a faucet. I am 66 year old woman and did it myself. The faucet will come with directions. You can also go to home depot or other hardware store and get instructions from them before making the purchase to be sure you have the right tools to do the job yourself.1 marked as helpful Reply

Cynthia E on Jan 16, 2014I am super un-handy when it comes to electrical, plumbing etc. But the faucets do come with instructions and tool list needed and I was able to replace 1 myself. Hopefully the other ways will work and you won't have to replace but if you do have to it is a very easy do it yourself project.1 marked as helpful Reply

Gay Storm on Jan 16, 2014So far, the vinegar has done nothing. I'm sure it's some kind of mineral build-up - we have extremely hard water. I will try the WD40 next. Thanks for all suggestions!Helpful Reply

Cynthia E on Jan 17, 2014I went to my Hubby with your problem, He said that most likely the bushing or bearing in the faucet has gone bad (you can try WD40 but if that didn't help need to replace ) . He said you could replace those but it is much harder to replace those than to replace whole faucet (and most time need special tools to get inside faucet to replace). As I said prev. they do have instructions and tools needed (basically a pair of pliers)-- just turn water off, un-hook , un-screw faucet and remove-- hook up new faucet, turn on water and check for leaks (tighten up, or wrap screw threads with plumbers tape/ teflon if leaking and re attach. Takes less than 15 mins. from start to finish. Takes him about 5 mins. took me 15 :)1 marked as helpful Reply

Gay Storm on Jan 17, 2014Thanks, @ Cynthia E. I think your husband is right - we have had such bad luck with appliances in this home - garbage disposal is going, faucet in bathroom won't work now, have had to replace 4 door handles...I will look at Wal-mart to see if they have any affordable faucets. I hope I can find one that isn't too much $$$. Thanks for your comment.1 marked as helpful Reply

Lori Harmon on Apr 06, 2016Not sure why this comes up as a "recent" question but in case anyone searches for this problem: I had this happen to me too. I called the manufacturer and they sent me a brand new faucet free of charge! Once I took the old frozen one out, I found that the hot and cold supply lines were twisted inside the housing of my single handle faucet. So if you have this problem and a less responsive manufacturer, it may be that if you could untwist them without damaging the copper it might fix it so it could be reinstalled.Helpful Reply

Tonya on Apr 06, 2016I had to his happen to me as well. I called the manufacture and they replaced my faucet as well since it was guaranteed for life ( expensive one). It has been only two years since replacement and this one is doing the same thing. My husband has installed many faucets and this particular one has been a bad experience! Buy a cheap one.1 marked as helpful Reply
