go with the primer/paint combo...Satin is perfect...will be beautiful !! Good luck
You can get a product that takes the gloss off. It is made by rustoleum. It works great. I also have used alcohol/ and or fingernail polish remover. I did this whenI painted my trim in my house because I couldn't afford to replace the trim. The use a paint/primer ccombo
For a large area a deglosser would be easier and quicker than sanding. I personally don't like paint/primer combo paint but that is a personal choice. it just has more paint solids in it for "one" coat coverage. You still may need two coats if your going over dark color. Satin would be a great finish.
The primer paint combo sounds easiest. A really good cleaning first, then paint it on. You mention health issues, so maybe this can be done a section at a time and seated! Good luck!
You can usually take the gloss off paint with TSP also, just mix it, and use a big car sponge. Wear gloves. protect flooring.
I clean it then use primer/paint combo for less mess and work.
